Thailand Visa Requirements 2026

Since 15 September 2026, most visitors get 30 days visa-free in Thailand, down from the 60 days that applied from July 2024. The 30-day exemption covers 60 countries and territories, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India and most EU countries, and it is for tourism only. You can extend it once by 30 days at an immigration office, so the realistic maximum is about 60 days per entry.

What changed on 15 September 2026? A ministerial announcement published in the Royal Gazette on 31 August 2026 scrapped the 60-day visa exemption introduced in July 2024. It was replaced by a 30-day exemption for 60 countries and territories, a 15-day exemption for Seychelles and Mauritius, and a much shorter visa-on-arrival list (Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia only). Land-border entries on the 30-day exemption are now capped at two per calendar year. Bilateral agreements (China, South Korea, Brazil and others) did not change. If you entered Thailand before 15 September 2026, you keep the 60 days you were granted (TAT News).

30-Day Visa Exemption

Eligibility (60 countries and territories): Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Bhutan, Brunei, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Malaysia, Maldives, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkiye, Ukraine, UAE, United Kingdom and United States.

Bilateral Agreements (Unchanged)

Some nationalities enter under separate bilateral deals that were not affected by the September 2026 change:

• 90 days: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, South Korea, Peru
• 30 days: China, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Laos, Macao, Mongolia, Russia, Timor-Leste, Vietnam
• 14 days: Cambodia, Myanmar (Myanmar air arrivals only)

15-Day Exemption and Visa on Arrival

• 15 days visa-free: Seychelles and Mauritius.
• Visa on arrival: now only for Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia. Every other nationality not listed above needs a visa before travel, applied for through the Thai e-Visa portal.

Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

Since 1 May 2025, every foreign visitor must complete the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before arrival, whether you come by air, land or sea. It replaced the paper TM6 form. Fill it in via the official immigration channel within 3 days before you arrive and keep the confirmation on your phone.

Tourist Visa (TR)

If you need more than 30 days from the start, apply for a Tourist Visa before arrival:

• Single Entry (TR): 60 days, extendable by 30 days. Apply via the Thai e-Visa portal.
• Multiple Entry (METV): 6 months validity, 60 days per entry.

Long-Stay Options

• Destination Thailand Visa (DTV): 5-year multiple-entry visa for remote workers, freelancers and people doing activities such as Muay Thai or cooking courses. Requires proof of at least 500,000 THB in funds.
