7 Days in Bali – The Ultimate Itinerary (2026)

Seven days in Bali is enough time to experience the island's incredible diversity — ancient temples and rice terraces, world-class surfing and beach clubs, mountain treks and volcanic sunrises, and some of the best food in Southeast Asia. This itinerary balances must-see highlights with time to relax, so you don't come home needing a vacation from your vacation.

We've designed this route to minimize driving time while hitting all the essentials: Ubud (3 nights) → Canggu (2 nights) → Uluwatu (2 nights).

Quick overview:

  • Day 1: Arrive → Ubud (settle in, sunset at Campuhan Ridge)
  • Day 2: Ubud (temples, rice terraces, Monkey Forest)
  • Day 3: Ubud → Mount Batur sunrise → Tegallalang
  • Day 4: Canggu (surf, cafes, beach clubs, sunset)
  • Day 5: Canggu → Tanah Lot → Seminyak evening
  • Day 6: Uluwatu (Padang Padang, Uluwatu Temple, Kecak dance)
  • Day 7: Uluwatu → Nusa Penida day trip → depart

Day 1: Arrive in Bali → Ubud

Afternoon: Settle Into Ubud

Fly into Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) and take a prepaid taxi or pre-booked transfer to Ubud (~1.5 hours, ~300,000 IDR / $20). Book a private transfer on Klook for a smooth arrival.

Check into your hotel and spend an hour unwinding by the pool. If you're staying at one of Ubud's incredible villas with jungle views, you might not want to leave.

Late Afternoon: Campuhan Ridge Walk

A gentle paved trail through rolling hills just west of Ubud center. The walk takes about 45 minutes each way and offers stunning views of palm groves and river valleys.

  • Cost: Free
  • Best time: 4–5pm for the golden hour light
  • Where: Start at the Campuhan bridge, 10 minutes walk from central Ubud

Evening: Dinner in Central Ubud

Grab your first Balinese meal at one of these spots:

  • Ibu Oka — Famous babi guling (suckling pig). Come before 2pm for lunch, or try their evening spot. ~80,000 IDR ($5.30)
  • Locavore — If you booked ahead (weeks in advance), this MICHELIN-recognized tasting menu is worth every rupiah. ~1,500,000 IDR ($100)
  • Naughty Nuri's — BBQ ribs and strong martinis. Casual and fun. ~120,000 IDR ($8)

Where to stay in Ubud: Puri Sunia Resort from $80, Puri Garden Hotel from $25, Hanging Gardens of Bali from $200.

Day 2: Temples, Terraces & Monkeys

Morning: Tegallalang Rice Terraces

Wake up early and head to Tegallalang before the tour bus crowds arrive. The cascading rice paddies are stunning in the soft morning light, and you'll have the famous swing almost to yourself.

  • Cost: 25,000 IDR ($1.65)
  • Arrive by: 7:30am for the best experience
  • Allow: 1.5–2 hours (walk the terraces, take photos, try a swing)

Mid-Morning: Tirta Empul Water Temple

Drive 20 minutes north to Tirta Empul, the sacred spring temple where Balinese Hindus perform purification rituals. You can participate in the bathing ceremony — it's a genuinely moving experience.

  • Cost: 50,000 IDR ($3.30) + sarong rental if needed
  • Allow: 1–1.5 hours
  • Tip: Dress modestly. The temple provides green sarongs for the bathing ritual.

Lunch: Warung near Tegallalang

Eat at one of the warungs overlooking the rice terraces. Nasi campur (mixed rice with various dishes) is the way to go — expect to pay 40,000–60,000 IDR ($2.60–4).

Afternoon: Ubud Monkey Forest

Head back into central Ubud and wander through the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. Over 700 macaques live among ancient temple ruins and towering banyan trees. It's beautiful, slightly chaotic, and completely unique to Bali.

  • Cost: 80,000 IDR ($5.30)
  • Hours: 8:30am–6pm
  • Allow: 1–1.5 hours
  • Tip: Secure all belongings. Don't bring plastic bags or food. Don't make eye contact with monkeys.

Late Afternoon: Ubud Art Market & Shopping

Browse the Ubud Art Market for souvenirs — handmade crafts, batik textiles, wooden carvings, and silver jewelry. Bargaining is expected (start at 40% of the asking price).

Evening: Traditional Dance Performance

Ubud offers nightly traditional dance performances. Check your hotel for the schedule — most start at 7:30pm.

  • Legong Dance at Ubud Palace — elegant classical dance. ~100,000 IDR ($6.60)
  • Kecak Fire Dance at ARMA Museum — dramatic fire trance performance. ~100,000 IDR ($6.60)

Dinner afterward at Sari Organik for farm-to-table Balinese cuisine overlooking rice fields.

Day 3: Sunrise Volcano & Cultural Immersion

Early Morning: Mount Batur Sunrise Trek

This is the one early alarm you won't regret. Your driver picks you up at 2am for the drive to Mount Batur's base. The 2-hour hike in the dark leads to the summit, where you'll watch the sun rise above the clouds with Lake Babel glowing below.

  • Cost: 400,000–700,000 IDR ($26–46) with guide. Book on Klook for reliable operators.
  • Duration: Leave at 2am, back by 9am
  • What to bring: Jacket (cold at summit!), headlamp or phone flashlight, water, comfortable shoes
  • Tip: Your guide will cook eggs in the volcanic steam at the summit — a fun touch.

Mid-Morning: Breakfast & Rest

Back in Ubud by 9:30am. Grab a late breakfast at Crate Ubud or your hotel and take a well-deserved rest.

Afternoon: Bali Swing or Spa

Choose your vibe:

Option A — Bali Swing: Multiple giant swings over the jungle canopy. Pure fun and incredible photos. Packages ~200,000–500,000 IDR ($13–33) depending on how many swings/activities.

Option B — Spa & Wellness: Ubud is Bali's spa capital. Treat yourself to a 2-hour Balinese massage and flower bath at one of the many excellent spas. Try Karsa Spa for riverside relaxation. ~300,000–500,000 IDR ($20–33).

Evening: Sunset Dinner at Swept Away

Dine at Swept Away at The Samaya — tables set on a riverbank with candlelit ambiance and gourmet food. One of Ubud's most romantic dinner spots. ~500,000–800,000 IDR ($33–53) per person.

Late Morning: Surf Lesson (or Free Surf)

If you haven't surfed before, this is the place to learn. Batu Bolong beach has gentle, consistent waves perfect for beginners.

  • Cost: 250,000–400,000 IDR ($16–26) for a 2-hour group lesson
  • Operators: Canggu Surf School, Old Man's Surf, Batu Bolong Surf School
  • Tip: Morning sessions (8–10am) have the best conditions and fewer crowds.

Afternoon: Beach Club Time

Settle in at Finns Beach Club or The Lawn for pool time, cold Bintangs, and the famous Canggu sunset. Finns has a waterpark and multiple pools; The Lawn is more laid-back with beanbags on the sand.

Where to stay in Canggu: Dermaga Canggu from $60, Gangga Bungalows from $45, The Slow from $180.

Day 5: Tanah Lot & Seminyak Evening

Morning: Canggu Cafe Hop

Start slow — this is the Canggu way. Hit up a few of the area's famous cafes:

  • Crate Cafe — The OG digital nomad spot. Great smoothie bowls and coffee. ~70,000 IDR ($4.60)
  • Milu by Nook — Insta-famous cafe with a bohemian vibe. ~80,000 IDR ($5.30)
  • Revolver — Australian-style cafe with excellent specialty coffee. ~60,000 IDR ($4)

Afternoon: Tanah Lot Temple

Hire a driver or ride to Tanah Lot (~30 min from Canggu). This sea temple perched on a rocky outcrop is one of Bali's most photographed landmarks. Visit during low tide to walk right up to the base.

  • Cost: 60,000 IDR ($4)
  • Best time: Late afternoon for sunset. Arrive by 4:30pm.

  • La Favela — Brazilian-themed nightclub with incredible decor. No cover before 10pm.

Day 6: Move to Uluwatu → Cliffs & Culture

Morning: Transfer to Uluwatu

Move south to the Bukit Peninsula (~45 min from Canggu). This is Bali's most dramatic coastline — towering limestone cliffs, hidden beaches, and world-class surf breaks.

Late Morning: Padang Padang Beach

Made famous by "Eat, Pray, Love," this small cove beach is accessed through a narrow cave in the cliffs. Crystal-clear water and a relaxed vibe.

  • Cost: 10,000 IDR ($0.65) parking
  • Activities: Swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, surfing (intermediate)
  • Tip: Bring water and snacks — facilities are limited.

Lunch: Single Fin

Perched on the cliff above Padang Padang, Single Fin is a legendary surfer bar with panoramic ocean views. Great burgers, cold beers, and the best people-watching in Uluwatu.

  • Cost: Mains ~100,000–150,000 IDR ($6.60–10)
  • Tip: Arrive before noon to grab a front-row table.

Afternoon: Beach or Beach Club

Choose your afternoon:

  • Savaya — Cliff-edge day club with an infinity pool, electronic music, and jaw-dropping views. Day pass ~350,000 IDR ($23).

Late Afternoon: Uluwatu Temple & Kecak Dance

One of Bali's absolute must-do experiences. The ancient temple perched 70 meters above the ocean hosts a nightly Kecak fire dance performance at sunset. Dozens of bare-chested men chanting "cak-cak-cak" while dancers portray scenes from the Ramayana, with the sun setting behind them. It's magical.

  • Temple cost: 50,000 IDR ($3.30)
  • Kecak dance: 150,000 IDR ($10) — book through Klook for reserved seating

  • Tip: Beware of monkeys at the temple — they're notorious for stealing sunglasses and phones. Keep everything zipped up.

Dinner: Jimbaran Bay Seafood

After the Kecak dance, head to Jimbaran Bay for a seafood dinner on the beach. Restaurants set up tables on the sand and grill fresh fish, prawns, squid, and lobster while you watch the stars.

  • Cost: 200,000–500,000 IDR ($13–33) for two people depending on seafood choices

Day 7: Nusa Penida Day Trip → Departure

How to get there: Fast boat from Sanur (45 min, ~200,000 IDR / $13 return). Book on Klook. Leave your hotel by 6:30am for the 7:30am boat.

Top spots to visit (hire a driver on arrival):

  • Kelingking Beach — The famous T-Rex shaped cliff viewpoint. One of the most photographed spots in Indonesia. The hike down is steep and challenging (~45 min each way) — the viewpoint alone is worth the trip.

  • Angel's Billabong — A natural infinity pool on the cliff edge. Only swim during calm conditions.

  • Broken Beach — A stunning rock arch with turquoise water below. Easy viewpoint access.

  • Crystal Bay — The best snorkeling spot on the island. Crystal-clear water with occasional manta ray sightings.

  • Tip: The roads are terrible — a driver is essential. Bring sunscreen, water, and snacks. Book the latest return boat (~5pm) to maximize your time.

Evening: Departure

Return to Sanur by 6pm. If your flight departs the next day, head to your hotel near the airport (Kuta, Seminyak, or Jimbaran). If flying tonight, the airport is 20 minutes from Sanur.
